This apparently looking tempting drink, has some dark secrets hidden in it's flavour:

Caffeine is actually a defense chemical

Coffee beans are only called 'beans'because of the resemblance-they're actually berries.

Coffee puts the body into energy debt
As per ayurveda, coffee causes the energy in the body to move upwards(udana vayu) and outwards(vyana vayu), depleting the body of the sustenance and nourishment of the ojas(ultimate tissue of the body according to ayurveda). This depleting energy sends the nervous system(especially brain) into a fight or flight mode. Thus increasing the body's reability on it.

After just 1 cup of coffee fight or flight mode is activated for 3 weeks
3weeks! Yess! The brain capacity is reduced to that of a prehistoric man since the limbic system is turned all the way on. Brain is bio-chemically hallucinated to believe that the body is in a danger situation by the sympathetic nervous system.
This is the reason why the so called modern and coffee addicted society suffer anxiety and nervous system disorder.

Coffee might be an obstruction in weight loss
Coffee promotes retention of sodium ions in the body which in turn is a reason of increased amount of water retention in the body.
This may also be a reason of substantial weight gain.

Despite the fact that caffeine is a mild diuretic, you don't lose more fluid than you take in by drinking coffee, so it cannot dehydrate you.

Coffee can be a reason for ill mental health
A study in the year 2016 concluded that a high intake of caffeine during adolescence can lead to permanent changes in the brain.
